Rebecca Black made a splash ten years ago with her hit single “Friday,” and now she has released a remix of that very song, featuring some well-known artists like 3OH!3. The song is produced by Dylan Brady of 100 gecs, and when listening to the song, you can hear the signature touch 100 gecs has, which is their upbeat electronic songs with high-pitched voices. The “Friday” remix is very much the big sister to the original track of the song, with mature lyrics and music video to accompany it.

Going into listening to the song, I was not thinking it was going to sound the way it does, but that is not a bad thing. I love 100 gecs, and knowing Dylan Brady had produced it, I knew it would be similar-sounding. The lyrics of the original song haven’t changed much, but since I am now an adult, I enjoy the added verses, like when 3OH!3 says, “Here comes fucking Friday” because I feel like it encompasses how we feel when it is the weekend, with school and jobs happening. The 3OH!3 verse and accompanying Big Freedia verse add a new breakdown layer to the song that wasn’t there before the remix. The breakdown added new lyrics that I like, and the bass being booted up high to create a body vibration and make you feel the music was placed right and enhanced by heavy electronic synthesizers.

The music video that goes along with the song was very fun to watch. Included in the video were actual scenes from the original “Friday” music video, such as the flipbook and a computer with the video playing. Rebecca Black was all dressed up in a futuristic blue outfit and was driving a car throughout most of the video. I thought that the outer space aspect of the video was very cool because the remix gives a vibe of being in the universe and dancing along with it.

It was so nostalgic listening to the remix because I thought back to the days when I watched the original “Friday” video on Youtube so many times. It was a part of my childhood, and now that I’m older, I get to reminisce about my childhood with the lyrics but hear the song in a more modern fashion with a better video and the addition of amazing new lyrics. Rebecca Black outdid herself with the new remix, and I think it is something everyone should listen to because of the nostalgic feel and new vibes.
