Yung Gravy is no stranger to the hip-hop scene, amassing almost a billion streams throughout his discography, which includes the iconic records Snow Cougar, Baby Gravy 2, Marvelous, and more. With laid-back and unserious vibes, Gravy in a recent press conference with °1824 discussed his ever-evolving music, his new and surprising record Serving Country, and a taste of what’s next.

“It’s fire,” Yung Gravy explained. Serving Country is an ode to the Minnesota-born rapper's music he grew up on and partied to in college, featuring your dad’s favorite artists like Shania Twain and Zac Brown. Genre isn’t a consideration for Gravy; he wanted to try something fun with the new record because he is “sick of doing the same stuff” but still kept the same “Yung Gravy feels.”

Options were limited with the new album, but he perfected that country vibe while staying unserious yet professional. To maintain this balance of authenticity and humor, Gravy commented that he has fun while just pouring out his feelings in writing.

Working with his favorite producer Diamond Pistols, he and “three little fellas,” including his roommate, helped him write melodies to sing and rap to on the album. When asked what the environment should look like when people listen, he concluded that people should be surrounded by Southern comfort and cigarettes, drinking their favorite beer and having an open mind. It is country Gravy at its finest, with “all bangers.”

I was so excited to ask him a question, first thanking the icon for speaking with me. I was so intrigued with the fact that he was able to collaborate with Shania Twain and wanted to know how it all came together. The story goes that he met her at a GRAMMY party, thinking she was a “MILF,” and eventually became friends with her, invited to a ton of places by her husband including Geneva, Switzerland. This friendship made its way into the studio, and the rest is history.

You may be wondering what Gravy’s favorite song off the record is, to which he replied, “I Went To Jail In Georgia,” based on a true story. Additionally, Hendrix, his adorable dog which we all got to see, really enjoys “Cop A Truck.”

“Come to the shows,” he exclaimed as the press conference started to wrap up. He will be going on tour this fall with Carter Vail, coming to a variety of venues and places. Yung Gravy’s new album Serving Country is out now wherever you stream music.
