PREMIERE: "Pretty Girl" by Asking For A Friend
Words by Adrienne Joelle
Asking For A Friend is the collaborative brainchild of artists Lostboycrow and DYSN.
Lostboycrow is known for his introspective electronic-pop style mixed with R&B, while DYSN’s sound can be described as heartfelt indie-rock. Both based in LA, the two artists have amassed quite a number of plays across their streaming platforms individually. What happens when the two come together? Asking For A Friend is formed. A project in the works for some time, they now present the release of their first single, “Pretty Girl.”
At first glance, the track feels as if you are entering a dream, opening with a chord progression on acoustic guitar that is both simple and soothing. DYSN is no stranger to these types of guitar arrangements, as many of his own songs follow suit.
The song then builds up over time while incorporating elements of bass and electric, as well as subtle hints of synth; bearing comfort and charm with poise. Like wearing your heart on your sleeve, the duo is intentional and honest.
“Just close your eyes,” they sing together. Their voices go from croons to falsetto. True enough, the dream-like state from the beginning of the song is present all throughout. A timeless ballad (and hopefully the first of many), “Pretty Girl” by Asking For A Friend will ease your mind.
