Newly formed band In Earnest have just released their new single called “Put Me Under,” which is a personal account about loneliness and depression. With their music, In Earnest is trying to spread a conversation about mental health and lessening the stigma attributed to mental health and getting help. The band consists of songwriters Sarah and Tom, who are a couple from the UK. The band also has a guitarist named Toby, who also plays the violin. The band formed together in 2019 under the name “Carousel,” which gained a lot of popularity when touring with The Oh Hellos and put on other headlining gigs.

The new single “Put Me Under” is very heartfelt and emotional. Upon first listening, I could hear the sadness of the acoustic guitars, accompanied by Sarah’s emotionally driven vocals. The single is a personal song for Sarah, for it is about her struggles with chronic anxiety and depression. She copes with these illnesses by being in the presence of dogs, which the song hints at. It truly is amazing that the band made this song in one room, live and with no autotune. It’s hard to believe, because the song sounds so well-done and professionally produced. The haunting chills of Sarah’s vocals and the sad acoustic guitar make for a song that many people, including me, can relate to.

The single “Put Me Under” is out as of April 17, 2020, and is the first single from their forthcoming EP. You can stream it on any platform and even on their YouTube channel, where you can watch them making the EP. Make sure to follow their socials, which can be found at @inearnestband.
