The music community is often recognized for forming friendships. The Albany-based pop punk band Young Culture, who is gaining traction fast, released a new single entitled “I’ll Be There” to address this recognition and send words of encouragement to fans, as well as giving a glimmer of hope during these hard times.

Prior to the release of the song, the band set up a phone number to call that gave fans a little snippet of the song and a reminder that Young Culture doesn’t have fans, they have friends. The band also took two days where they answered the phone and got to talk to callers.

The song itself is a bit different from what Young Culture fans may be used to. With a more mellow vibe, the band takes a change in sound. The simplicity of the lyrics don’t make the song any less meaningful; if anything, it packs an even more important punch. With a simple sentence, “I’ll be there for you when you need me / I promise you I’m never leaving,” comforts listeners.

When asked about what the song means to the band, the guitarist Troy Burchett responded “‘I’ll Be There’ is Alex and Gabe’s baby. I only added some little touches at the end, but from the beginning, I knew this was a special one. It was the first super poppy song we wrote, and the lyrics don’t get in the way of anything, which I really like. They’re simple and to the point stating a message of positivity. What I always liked about them is that on the surface, they’re about a relationship, but honestly could be about any bond between people or groups of people.”

When asked the same question, lead singer Alex Magnan replied, “When we wrote this song a little while back, we had no idea it could mean what it feels like it does now. Between everything happening in 2020, we all need someone there for us.”
