MEOVV Show Their Claws on Debut "MY EYES OPEN VVIDE"

MEOVV, a five-piece rookie girl group made up of Sooin, Gawon, Anna, Narin, and Ella, recently released their debut EP, MY EYES OPEN VVIDE. After debuting in September last year with “MEOW”, the group garnered attention with their unique sound and captivating stage performances, earning the title of New Favorite Artist at the 2024 MAMA Awards. On this genre-spanning project, produced and written by THEBLACKLABEL under the guidance of label founder and well-known producer TEDDY, the group showcases their distinctive sound and claims their spot as one of the most exciting up-and-coming artists. The six tracks are filled with catchy melodies, beautiful vocals, and upbeat lyrics espousing confidence and strength.
The EP opens with “HANDS UP,” a catchy, ego-boosting track that earned the group their first music show win on “M Countdown.” Lyrics emphasizing ambition and resilience are paired with a Brazilian funk-inspired beat, sure to get stuck in your head. The music video, which is centered around the girls training for the traditional Korean board game alkkagi, has amassed more than 30 million views on YouTube.
On “DROP TOP”, MEOVV delivers the perfect pop summer anthem. Celebrating living in the moment and forgetting about your worries, the sing-along chorus wouldn’t be out of place in any coming-of-age movie, while the more stripped-down pre-chorus highlights their vocals.
As their first step onto the scene and the introduction of their group name, the group’s debut single “MEOW” serves as an identity-defining track. The song showcases their vocal, rap, and dance skills, with a more laid-back beat allowing the members to shine. This is followed by “BODY,” a dance track similar in style to a repetitive, chanted chorus. The song acts as a challenge and warning to rivals, complete with a fitting cat-claw choreography.
MEOVV slows the pace with “TOXIC,” an intimate R&B pop ballad. The song details the feeling of being unable to let go of a relationship despite knowing how unhealthy it is, going back to the same person over and over again. This is the most vocally impressive track, with an almost ethereal chorus. The EP finishes with “LIT RIGHT NOW,” a charming light pop song with a similar summery vibe to “DROP TOP,” co-written by Gawon and Narin.
