Last week on October 15th, Loveclub released their new single “On the Face of It.” Canadian-born and Los Angeles-based, Loveclub is the newest project of a singer/songwriter/producer named Arthur. He places his sound on the line between contemporary indie-pop and R&B with smooth auto-tuned vocals and down-to-earth lyrics, and has garnered over 120,000 streams on Soundcloud and nearly 40,000 on Spotify.

With its sound described by Loveclub as a mix between The 1975 and Blink-182, “On the Face of It” follows the experience of a growing relationship. He feels as if he can be himself around the love interest of the song, with the chorus ending off with “You schooled me, and that’s been a nice change,” which details the feeling of something different and new that he was not used to, accompanied by an uplifting beat and 80’s styled synths.

“The song was inspired by a girl I’ve been seeing and the lyrics are a stream of consciousness about us and my thoughts on us,” Loveclub tells Kinda Cool Magazine. “We’re best friends, but we also like each other a lot and spending time with her has really made me see how open you can be with someone. I don’t hesitate to be silly or weird around her. The line ‘I like who I am with you, myself with no disguise’ is referring to that. I think in general, I personally have somewhat shy tendencies, so it’s been a nice change to not be so reserved.”

With sounds reminiscent of LANY, flor, and Phangs, Loveclub is one to watch in today’s indie pop scene. Make sure to stream and support “On the Face of It” and follow Loveclub on Instagram and Twitter (@1800loveclub) for future releases.
