A Different Direction from As it Is
As It Is started off their 2019 stream of releases by dropping a surprise EP titled Denial: Reimagined. The EP is the first of four to come this year, according to the band’s Twitter account. Denial: Reimagined takes us through the first stage of As It Is’ third studio album, The Great Depression, featuring the first three songs on the record in a new and interesting way.
Instead of loud guitars and powerful vocals, the beginning of the first track, “The Great Depression (Reimagined)” features an ensemble of strings which sets the tone for the rest of the EP. The second track, “The Wounded World (Reimagined)” features synth piano, which is new to As It Is’ sound, but doesn’t distract from lead singer Patty Walters’ calming voice throughout the song. The closing track, “The Fire, The Dark (Reimagined)” is just as powerful as the original. The acoustic guitar and piano throughout the song help to compliment Patty’s voice and evolves the song into way more than just an acoustic piece.
