Conan Gray, "The King" of Romance

Having recently opened for Panic! at the Disco, and about to embark on a second sold-out US headliner, Texas-based YouTube sensation Conan Gray is back with yet another groovy, lovesick tune.

Keeping in classic Conan Gray nature, “The King” brings to life a sassiness towards love. Gray expresses a longing for a relationship through his smooth beats and even smoother lines. With lyrics such as, ‘You like me, oh, obviously, so why you trying to leave when you know that I’m the king, cause I’m supreme,’ Gray expresses newfound confidence in his romantic abilities.

Referring to himself as ‘the king,’ Gray proves able to incite a spark in his love interest’s heart, commenting on how he knows he’s the ‘only one when the chemistry fades, the only one at the end of the day.’
This overriding confidence lets Gray look past his crush’s apathetic image, ‘always flirting away, getting every number,’ showing no real interest in Gray, despite both feeling a connection.

Proving a shift from his 2018 release “Crush Culture,” in which Gray expresses a lackluster view on love, “The King” portrays his real feelings, telling the world he’s just another young adult obsessed with the concept of love.
